The Arctic represents the largest economic opportunity in the history of Canada. With plentiful supplies of fish, the possibility of a fully self-sufficient Inuit population has never been more real. The 28 Arctic-Inuit communities depend on fishing as a resource.
However, climate change has reduced the ice in the Arctic, allowing other countries to infiltrate Canada’s waters. Canada must invest strongly in the development of Icebreakers to create respect for our borders, and to protect our resources so that our Inuit population can continue to benefit.
